My first Blog post. I'm so excited to be able to have a different way to communicate with my weaving community!. I hope you enjoy these posts, and please let me know what would be helpful to you on your weaving journey, and I will try to help with Blogs, Videos or patterns.
This was a spur of the moment idea, born from frustration when i couldn't find a bag that I liked to put my Sock Knitting in. I needed a small bag that I could take anywhere, that could house my obsession for knitting socks. I hate being idle and am trying to reduce my screen time (says me, staring at a screen right now lol) so If i go anywhere where I may be waiting (think Bus, Train, Dr's waiting rooms etc) I want to be doing something useful. My family loves the socks I knit, and I love knitting them, and this bag will fit comfortably in my enormous handbag, and help me take my sock knitting everywhere, in style.
I could have purchased one that was close to what i wanted, of course, but what fun is that to a weaver! I'm always thinking of ways to push the boundaries of what can be done with a Rigid Heddle Loom, a sewing machine and curiosity. Also, the ones I saw were either too big or small, or not in colors that I liked, or materials that I liked the feel of. (like that grey felted fabric that collects dust and fibers and that's rough and feels gritty).
When I weave something I need instead of buying it, I get to choose the colors, how it feels, the dimensions and I learn more and add to my knowledge. What could be better?
I chose to time each task, mainly so I could get a feel of long this would take me if I wanted to do another one (especially as a gift) and also give you, my wonderful Weaving community, an Idea of how long it would take to make one for yourselves. All up, including set up, weaving and sewing, it took me 5 hours. This of course doesn't take into consideration coffee breaks, answering the phone and making breakfast, all the things we do in a day. Nor does it include time for wet finishing. However, if you were dedicated (and have a dryer) there is no reason this could not be completed in a day.
Anyway,
is the video, and I hope you enjoy it. I love my new sock knitting bag and hope you do too.
PS - I have written this into a pattern that can be downloaded, sharing how to weave it and also how to sew it and put it together. Check it out in my new Store!
Have a wonderful day
I really enjoyed this video first time round and a bag like this went straight on to my to-do list. Thanks very much for making the pattern available as well. I presume you’re going to put it in the Shop here as well? 😃
